David Cohen’s Variety TechBytes Piece Illuminates Sad State of Affairs Affecting the VFX Industry

David Cohen keenly outlines the sad state of affairs affecting the VFX industry in his 2/14 article for his Variety “Tech Bytes” column.http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118066191/

I can’t think of any films I’ve seen in the last year that haven’t relied on VFX artistry but the pay discrepancies for artists are especially telling when Cohen points out the following:

“They know what our margins are and they won’t let us make any money,” he said.

He cited one vfx-Oscar-nommed tentpole his company worked on with another “big” shop, saying the director made probably $50 million but neither vfx company made a penny of profit. Such imbalances seem common.”

More Dismal VFX Industry News…

Hoping for a positive outcome for the talented friends and colleagues who work there!

Apparently subsidies, not talent has alot to do with the grim situation facing R&H and all studios today.
